Grace Before and After Meals

Ante Prandium Before the Noon Meal
Sacérdos benedictúrus mensam, incipit: + Benedícite,
Et alii repetunt: Benedícite.

Deinde sacerdos incipit versum: V. Oculi ómnium, Et alii prosequuntur: R. In te sperant, Dómine, et tu das escam illórum in témpore opportúno. Aperis tu manum tuam, et imples omne ánimal benedictióne. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sæcula sæculórum. Amen.

V. Kýrie, eléison.
R. Christe, eléison. Kýrie, eléison.

Pater noster secreto usque ad V. Et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem. R. Sed líbera nos a malo.

Postea sacerdos dicit: Orémus. Bénedic, + Dómine, nos, et hæc tua dona, quæ de tua largitáte sumus sumptúri. Per Christum Dóminum nostrum. R. Amen.

[Deinde lector: Iube, domne, benedícere. Bened. Mensæ cæléstis partícipes fáciat nos Rex ætérnæ glóriæ. R. Amen. Post lectionem, dicto a lectore: Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis. R. Deo grátias.]
The officiant says: Bless us, + O Lord, and the others answer: Bless us.


Then the officiant says: V. The eyes of all R. hope in Thee, O Lord, and Thou givest them food in a due season. Thou openest Thy hand, and fillest every living creature with Thy blessing. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

V. Lord, have mercy.
R. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Officiant: Our Father (silently) as far as: V. And lead us not into temptation. R. But deliver us from evil.

Officiant: Let us pray. Bless us, O Lord, + and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.

[If there is table reading the lector says: Pray, Lord, a blessing. Officiant: May the King of glory make us partakers of the heavenly table. R. Amen. (Reading follows) At the end of the reading the lector says: And Thou, O Lord, have mercy on us. R. Thanks be to God.]

Post Prandium After the Noon Meal
Sacerdos incipit versum: V. Confiteántur + tibi, Dómine, ómnia ópera tua. R. Et Sancti tui benedícant tibi. Glória Patri. Sicut erat.

Postea sacerdos absolute dicat: Agimus tibi grátias, omnípotens Deus, pro univérsis benefíciis tuis: Qui vivis et regnas in sæcula sæculórum. R. Amen.

Sacerdos: Laudáte Dóminum, omnes gentes, * R. Laudáte eum, omnes pópuli, Quóniam confirmáta est super nos misericórdia eius, * et véritas Dómini manet in ætérnum. Glória Patri. Sicut erat.

Sacerdos dicit Pater noster quod cum aliis secreto prosequitur usque ad V. Et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem. R. Sed líbera nos a malo.

R. Iustítia eius manet in sæculum sæculi.
V. Benedícam Dóminum in omni témpore.
R. Semper laus eius in ore meo.
V. In Dómino laudábitur ánima mea.
R. Audiant mansuéti, et læténtur.
V. Magnificáte Dóminum mecum.
R. Et exaltémus nomen eius in idipsum.

Officiant: V. Let + all thy works praise Thee, O Lord. R. And all Thy saints bless Thee. Glory be to the Father. As it was.

Officiant: We give Thee thanks, almighty God, for all Thy benefits, who liveth and reigneth world without end. R. Amen.


Officiant: Oh, praise the Lord, all ye nations, * R: glorify Him, all ye people, For His mercy is confirmed upon us, * and the faithfulness of the Lord remains forever. Glory be. As it was.

Officiant: V. Lord, have mercy.
R. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

The officiant says the Our Father while the others follow silently, as far as: V. And lead us not into temptation. R. But deliver us from evil.

V. He distributed and gave to the poor.
R. His justice remaineth forever.
V. I will bless the Lord at all times.
R. His praise shall be ever on my lips.
V. In the Lord shall my soul be praised.
R. Let the meek hear and rejoice.
V. O magnify the Lord with me.
R. And let us extol His name together.
V. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
R. Both now and forever.

Then the officiant says: Vouchsafe, O Lord, to reward with eternal life all those who have done us good, for Thy name’s sake. R. Amen.

V. Let us bless the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

V. And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. R. Amen.

Our Father (silently). When it is finished the officiant says: V. May + God grant us his peace. R. Amen.

Ante Cenam Before the Evening Meal
Sacerdos benedicturus mensam, incipit: + Benedícite, Et alii repetunt: Benedícite.

Deinde sacerdos incipit versum: V. Edent páuperes, Et alii prosequuntur: R. Et saturabúntur, et laudábunt Dóminum qui requírunt eum: vivent corda eórum in sæculum sæculi. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sæcula sæculórum. Amen.


V. Kýrie, eléison.
R. Christe, eléison. Kýrie, eléison.
